HARTFORD – State Representative Donna Veach (R-30) has co-sponsored a bill proposal that would provide legislative oversight into any relief funds provided by the federal government through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
Per HB-6555, An Act Concerning Legislative Oversight and Approval of COVID-19 Relief Funds, the governor shall provide his recommended allocations as part of this plan to the General Assembly for their approval and/or modifications prior to their dispersal. Additionally, these requirements apply to any other COVID-19 funds provided by the federal government.
“I’m pleased my colleagues on the other side of the aisle recognized the importance of working together on this issue in order to ensure the allocation and disbursement of these federal relief funds is done intelligently and thoughtfully with all parties taken into account,” Rep. Veach said.
Connecticut is expected to receive $2.6 billion in state relief as part of the American Rescue Plan. Funds provided through the federal government must be used for things like assisting small businesses, schools, and other areas impacted as a direct result of the pandemic.
Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of the bill. It will now move onto the Senate for further action.
