Rep. Veach Responds to Governor Extending Emergency Powers to April 20th

HARTFORD – State Representative Donna Veach (R-30) responds to Governor Lamont extending his emergency powers for another three months.

“Continuing to extend the governor’s executive authority without legislative input is extremely dismissive to the thousands of residents whose voices have been ignored for far too long,” Rep. Veach said. “On one hand, the legislature is unable to meet in any capacity to openly discuss the authority of the governor, yet our colleagues on the other side of the aisle don’t have an issue with committees meeting to discuss liberal policies or creative new tax ideas that have little to no focus on the financial implications this pandemic continues to have on families, businesses, and our economy. These extensions are putting businesses out of business and until we really address them head on, unfortunately many more will follow suit.”

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Lamont declared a public health and civil preparedness emergency on March 10, 2020, which was scheduled to remain in effect until September 9, 2020. Eight days before they were set to expire, he declared a new public health and civil preparedness emergency and extended them to February 9, 2021. Today, Gov. Lamont filed a letter with the Secretary of the State’s office to once again renew the states of emergency through April 20, 2021.
