HOUSE REPUBICANS PROPOSE REFORMS TO TRUST ACT

HOUSE REPUBICANS PROPOSE REFORMS TO TRUST ACT

Our communities are safer when the individuals who would seek to commit dangerous crimes are held accountable for their actions. A Republican proposal put forth today to reform Connecticut’s Trust Act would make it easier for our law enforcement officers remove these individuals from our communities.

By amending the Trust Act to now include C felonies, state and local law enforcement agencies could now hold an undocumented immigrant pursuant to an ICE detainer request for up to 48 hours, and without a judicial warrant, when such individual has been charged with a Class A, B, or C felony.

C felonies include crimes such as: manslaughter, assault, threatening with intent to cause evacuation of a school or day care, house of religious worship, or religiously-affiliated community center, strangulation or suffocation, sexual assault, enticing a minor, burglary, arson, and more.

These are the exact cases we are trying to avoid.

Today, these spaces have been transformed into vibrant community gathering spaces for people of all ages. Yesterday, I had a chance to tour the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library and see the evolution that […]
