Trumbull State Officials Hosts Annual Women’s History Month Essay Contest
TRUMBULL– State Representatives David Rutigliano (R-123), Ben McGorty (R-122) and Tony Scott (R-112) hosted their annual House of Representatives Women’s History Month Essay Contest at Fairchild Nichols Memorial Library on Saturday March 30th.
Earlier this year, the legislators contacted interested schools so that students could write essays during March, which is designated as Women’s History Month, with the sixth grade students from Trumbull schools submitting essays on the topic: “Important Women in Connecticut’s History and How Their Contributions to the State and Nation Affect Me.”
Each student wrote a 300-word essay on the topic with the focus on one notable Connecticut woman, detailing her life and accomplishments and what those contributions mean to them. During the ceremony, the first and second place students read their winning essays to the audience, sharing what historic woman was important to them. We are glad that we could help support the curriculum with this additional learning opportunity.
“I want to congratulate our contest winners. They went above and beyond their school work to complete essays for Women’s History Month, and I appreciate that they took the time to participate. Each entered a well thought out and compelling essay on their chosen subject,” said Rep. Tony Scott.
“I want to thank the students for doing such a great job, they are wonderful representatives of the Town of Trumbull and our schools. I was quite inspired listening to the students recite their essays; I know we’ll see great things from them in the future,” said Rep. Rutigliano.
“These bright young students give Trumbull so much to be proud of, and I am so encouraged by their excellence in writing and understanding of Women’s History in Connecticut. Thank you to all of our participants and congratulations to the winners, their families, teachers, and schools,” Rep. McGorty said.
