Rep. Scott Statement on PURA Chair Resignation

Rep. Scott Statement on PURA Chair Resignation

Rep. Tony Scott issued the following statement in response to news of Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) chair Marissa Gillett releasing a letter of resignation:

After mounting pressure, amid numerous scandals, the PURA Chair announced her resignation. As a member of the Executive & Legislative Nominations Committee, and later on the House floor, I voted against Marissa Gillett’s reappointment as chair.

My decisions to do so came after listening to her testimony and in response to controversies brewing around her at that time. She was asked during the committee hearing about emails sent to fellow commissioners that she said didn’t exist. It turned out they did. She was asked about texts with Democrat leaders of the Energy Committee and, in court, admitted they were deleted from her phone. When the committee was getting set to vote there was backroom dealing in exchange for votes that led to one Senator possibly being himself appointed to PURA. These are just a few examples of why none of this sat right with me. There are also lawsuits pending against PURA.

All of this is on top of decisions made by Gillett and PURA, which haven’t lowered electric rates.
