TRUMBULL– To honor Flag Day, State Reps. David Rutigliano (R-123), Ben McGorty (R-122) and Tony Scott (R-112) held an in-person flag collection as part of the month-long flag drive in cooperation with the Trumbull American Legion Post #141 for worn and tattered flags at the Middlebrook Elementary School last Saturday.

There are still drop-off boxes at both the Trumbull Public Library and the Fairchild Nichols Memorial Library branches for the collection of worn, faded and tattered American flags culminates with a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day on June 14th.

The Second Continental Congress adopted the first American flag on July 14, 1777, and President Woodrow Wilson declared June 14 to be Flag Day in 1916. National Flag Day was then established by an Act of Congress in August 1949.

The U.S. Flag Code specifies that old American flags no longer in service must be properly disposed.
