Easton, CT—An array of services is offered at Easton Senior Center to seniors not only from Easton, but also the surrounding area. The 1930s school building housing the senior center was converted into flexible space for classes, meals, and massage therapy.

State Representative Tony Scott (R-112) and State Senator Tony Hwang were invited by Center Director Valerie Buckley to talk with her and see what they do at the center.

“The services offered by the Easton Senior Center really enrich the surrounding area. They provide social opportunities, physical activity, and so much more,” said Rep. Scott.

“It is always a joy and privilege to visit with the seniors in our community. They deserve our deepest respect, care, and commitment,” said Sen. Hwang. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Val Buckley for her more than 40 years of compassionate leadership. She exemplifies what it means to serve with heart. Her tireless dedication has shaped a legacy of care, connection, and community that continues to uplift the lives of countless seniors.”

About 500 people use the center, including residents from Monroe and Trumbull, and as far away as Greenwich and Ansonia. They served 250 Thanksgiving meals this year as well.

“Almost all their operations are funded through donors and fundraisers. Their most recent silent auction raised approximately $8,000,” noted Rep. Scott.

Among the services provided are bus transportation, internet access, large print books, salon services, and a variety of classes. These range from cooking and crafts to medical screenings and informational talks. One upcoming class is meant to bridge the gap between generations. Seniors will be taught current slang used by younger generations.

A department located in the same building offers a youth program called Easton‘s Here to Help. The coalition works to decrease substance misuse and mental health disorders among youth and families.
