Rep. Scott Introduces Bills on Sports Wagering

We’ve had sports gambling for about a year now, and I’ve introduced a few bills aimed at tweaking some aspects of the law now that we have this data, and expanding to an area that some people have been asking for. We have data to see what’s working and what needs to be changed.
Currently, people in Connecticut are not allowed to place bets on regular season games for teams like a UConn, Yale, or Quinnipiac. But if they play in a tournament, like the NCAA tournament or a conference tournament, you are allowed to bet on those teams. If a Connecticut resident is in a state that has sports gambling, which there are dozens, you can bet on regular season games.
DraftKings and FanDuel, who run the websites these bets go through, have technology and the ability to find betting irregularities. It’s going to be detected immediately and they’re going to shut that down.
By bringing it out of the underground and into the light, we have ability track these things a lot better and find out immediately when there’s issues.
A lot of what I’m proposing is coming from a consumer-friendly standpoint, to make sure that the consumer is not being taken advantage of. The bills were referred to the General Law Committee.
The General law will be looking at these bills, and I hope that they’re raised for a public hearing. The legislative session closes on June 4.
