Monroe— I was excited to join Monroe Parks and Recreation and First Selectman Ken Kellogg for Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for two new athletic fields at Wolfe Park.
I was a member of the Parks and Rec Commission for nine years, including the last six as chairman, and pleased to see this long-awaited project come to fruition. When I was chair, the Parks and Recreation Commission got quotes and designs. It cleared many hurdles along the way.
These two new fields will take the pressure off other fields in town. With less play, they will be healthier and last longer. Right now, the Town of Monroe doesn’t have enough room for all the programs Parks and Rec offers.
The Department noted that baseball, softball, and lacrosse teams are sharing the fields on the Great Hollow Lake side of the park.
I’m glad Wolfe Park will stay open during construction.
