Capitol Update: I joined my colleagues in the House tonight in voting in favor of passage of H.B. 5146, “An Act Concerning Food Donation,” which secured unanimous approval. It will make it easier for supermarkets to donate their edible surplus produce and other items to food relief organizations that are in need.

The goal of this bill is to help alleviate hunger in the state, while reducing waste at the same time. The bill also creates a task force to study the implementation of the program to determine its effectiveness.
