TRUMBULL — Dozens of Connecticut veterans were presented with Wartime Service Medals during a ceremony at the Trumbull Veterans Hall VFW, Oct. 20. Rep. Dave Rutigliano, Rep. Laura Devlin, and State Sen. Marilyn Moore were on hand to recognize the residents who served in a time of war and had not previously received the state award.
Patrick Carr, John Carr, Frank Carr, Vinicent Cavalier, Lawrence Condon, Richard Delvecchio, Francis Dempsy, Dominick Diemunsch, Charles Figlar, John Fosco Angelo Framularo, Richard Freeman, Daniel Geraghty, Thomas Geraghty, Bill Gerth, Thomas Gibbons, Thaddeus Gluchowski, Robert Halky, John Hax, John Johnson, James Juliano, Edward Laskowski, Paul Mihalov, Lucien Moran, Aldo Pappa, Joseph Piccirillo, Phillip Pitocco, John Rossi, Steve Salvaggio, John Shea, Robert Sherwood, David Wheeler, Robert Wicklund, David Worthington and others were honored for their service at the ceremony.
“Our veterans can’t be fully paid back for all of their service and sacrifice to our country, but these medals represent our gratitude for all they’ve done for us. Thank you,” said Rep. Rutigliano.
The event was very special for Rep. Devlin. Her father served in WWII and took part of the D-Day landing and the Battle of the Bulge. She thanked the veterans at the ceremony for their service and assured them that she will continue advocating on their behalf at the Capitol.
“Presenting these brave veterans with the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal is the least we can do for their tremendous service to our country and our state,” she said.
The Connecticut Wartime Service Medal is awarded to veterans who served in a time of war and were residents of Connecticut at the time he or she was called to active duty for such service, or live in Connecticut on the award date.
The CT Department of Veterans Affairs is currently accepting CT Wartime Service Medal applications. Awards may be made posthumously for veterans who died on or after January 1, 2000.
