Trumbull – The Sitting Duck Tavern along with its co-owner State Rep. Dave Rutigliano (R-123) hosted a fundraiser last week that benefited the “Sandy Ground project,” a group started by firefighters, police, teachers, police officers, volunteers and support staff.  Their mission is to build  playgrounds in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.  All the proceeds of the event went to this effort.  Their goal is to raise money to build 26 playgrounds all along the coast of Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.  These playgrounds are an attempt to connect two tragedies that share the same name in a way that people can never forget.

Each playground reflects the personality of the teacher or child for whom it would be named.  This event came in response to a playground built in Stratford in memory of teacher Victoria Soto, who lived in Stratford. The money from this event will go toward a playground to be built in Fairfield.

“I want to thank our employees and all those who came out and showed their support today for this great cause,” said Rep. Rutigliano.  “I hope with our effort, we are able to support  the hard work and dedication of these volunteers, in helping to honor and remember those who were lost on that tragic day.”

The event was attended by nearly 100 people and raised $2,500 which will go directly toward paying forward the playground to be built in Fairfield.
