TRUMBULL –State Representatives David Rutigliano (R-123) and Ben McGorty (R-123) in conjunction with Trumbull Stop & Shop and ‘Homes For The Brave’ collected a truck load of items to benefit local veterans on November 23rd.

“We asked, and you delivered! Thanks to your incredible support, our ‘Stuff a Truck’ drive was a tremendous success. Your kindness inspires us all,” said Rep. Rutigliano. “I want to give a special shout-out to the Long Hill Administration and Board of Education for their generous donation.”

Rep. McGorty said “A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our ‘Stuff a Truck’ campaign. Your generosity will bring warmth and nourishment to many families this season.”

During the two-hour drive outside of the Stop and Shop, the Trumbull legislators collected enough to fill the Homes for the Brave cargo van to the brim with non-perishable food items and toiletries that will be donated to local veterans in need. Moises Ortega from Home for the Brave was there to help collect donations.

Established in 2002, Homes for the Brave is a 501(c)(3) non-profit empowering Veterans facing homelessness, hunger, and mental health challenges. By offering safe housing, case management, life skills coaching, mental health treatment, and vocational services, the organization helps these individuals regain independence. To date, over 1,700 individuals have been served, securing stable income, housing, and self-determination. Learn more at homesforthebrave.org.

In 2011, Homes for the Brave opened Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes, Connecticut’s first and only community-based transitional home exclusively for homeless female Veterans and their young children.
