Rutigliano & Hwang with Tashua Elementary School GOGREEN Committee Hosts Toy Drive

TRUMBULL – Last Saturday the Tashua Elementary GoGreen Committee and Second Chance Toys kicked-off their 3rd annual Used Toy Drive in the Trumbull Town Hall parking lot. Second Chance Toys is an organization that promotes keeping plastic toys out of landfills/incinerators by donating them to children in need.

With the help of State Representatives Tony Hwang (R-134) and Dave Rutigliano (R-123), who both showed up to donate and load toys, the GoGreen Committee collected 444-gently used toys, which were transported and donated to Community Closet. Community Closet serves low-income families in Bridgeport, CT with access to free household essentials. During the holidays, used toys are in great demand. 1-800-GOT-JUNK of Stratford donated the truck that transported the toys to Bridgeport.

“This drive began with an admirable environmental aim, but having witnessed families receiving these toys first hand, it’s much more than that now. My words can’t do justice to the emotional impact of these donations” said GoGreen Committee member Jim Sullivan. “If people only knew, we would be sitting on a mountain donated toys.”

“I want to thank the Tashua PTA parents for putting on such a successful toy drive for Fairfield County in-need families. The toy drive not only collects used toys for kids but has the added benefit of helping and improving our environment by recycling great toys that otherwise would pollute our landfills, said Rep. Hwang.

“I want to thank Jim Sullivan and Candace Haas for all their hard work to make this event a success,” said Rutigliano. “As a Tashua parent, it is so great to see our school come together to give back this holiday season.”

The Tashua Elementary Used Toy drive continues until December 14. The final event is a collection in front of Tashua Elementary School Saturday (12/14) from 9AM to 11AM.
