HARTFORD- A project and state grant, State Representative David Rutigliano (R-123) has been pitching on behalf of Trumbull Little League will receive the approval by the State Bond Commission for improvements to Unity Park, the home of Trumbull Little league, which will include installation a turf field, upgrades to softball fields and addressing some drainage issues.

Rutigliano made the announcement to the Trumbull Little League officials and young little leaguers Saturday morning. The State Bond Commission will approve the state grant of $766,000 at their June 7th meeting.

Rep. David Rutigliano said, “I am grateful to Governor Lamont and the Bond Commission for approving this great local project that will benefit not only thousands of Trumbull kids, put players from surrounding towns who use Unity Park for games and tournaments. Little League is a big deal in our town and the kids deserve top-notch facilities, Trumbull Little league has done an outstanding job over the years maintaining and improving Unity Park, this money will hopefully help them move forward with some much-needed repairs to the remaining fields.”

“We are immensely grateful to Representative Rutigliano and the Governor’s office for giving us the opportunity to enhance Unity Park. We also extend our thanks to the Little League Board and Demitri Paris from the Trumbull Parks and Recreation Department for their efforts in designing and submitting the park improvement plans. Unity Park serves not only the Trumbull community but also hosts regional tournaments throughout the year. Trumbull Little League is a completely volunteer-run organization dedicated to teaching baseball, softball, and good sportsmanship to the youth of Trumbull,” said Angelo Magliocco, president of Trumbull Little league.

“Huge thanks to Representative Rutigliano for all his hard work to secure the bond on our behalf.  We could not have gotten this without his leadership and persistence.  Our little league board is super excited about the opportunity these funds present to make major improvements at the Town’s flagship little league facility, Unity Park,” said Kevin Chamberlin, Trumbull Little league board member and an engineer who was instrumental in conceptualizing the improvements.

This Trumbull Little League project proposes to reconstruct the existing baseballs field, 3 and 4 with new all-weather synthetic turf field. The fields have been sized to accommodate a little league baseball field or softball field. The orientation and general locations will remain the same as they currently exist.

The existing fields will have all fencing, topsoil, irrigation, and clay removed. Cut and fills will be conducted to achieve proposed grades. The fields will then have improved drainage system installed. Fencing of various heights and sizes will be installed and be integral to the concrete turf anchor curb. Additionally, it is assumed that the existing dugouts may be improved or replaced. This project was designed in cooperation with the Trumbull little League Board and the Trumbull Parks & Recreation Department.
