TRUMBULL – Representative Dave Rutigliano (R-123) attended the announcement of the 4th Annual Chowdafest.  Rutigliano, a two time champion, will look to defend his title on February 3rd in both the soup and creative chowder categories.  The annual fundraiser, presented by Stop & Shop, benefits the Connecticut Food Bank.

“Under Jim Keenan’s leadership the Chowdafest has grown exponentially over its short existence,” said Rutigliano.  “It is always a pleasure to compete with such talented people for such a great cause.  The Connecticut Food Bank does amazing work and the Chowdafest is the perfect example of how a community can come together and really make a difference.”

“We’re thrilled to host Chowdafest, having watched the event grow to the point it’s gotten big enough to hold it here at the arena,” said Howard Saffan, President of Harvor Yard Sports and Entertainment.  “The yard has never hosted a culinary event before but we know foodies are a passionate group.  We are excited to welcome them and to play a role in the continued success of Chowdafest.”

“Low-income families are struggling to put food on the table as heating and furl costs rise during the cold winter months,” said Connecticut Food Bank’s President and CEO Nancy L. Carrington.  “Each year we look forward to another successful Chowdafest event and appreciate the community’s overwhelming support to help their hungry neighbors.”

In four short years Chowdafest, a premier Connecticut chowder and soup competition, has grown so popular that it will be relocated to the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport on Sunday February 3, 2013 from 11AM -4PM.  The event started with 400 first year attendees and grew to over 5,000 participants in 2012.
