TRUMBULL– This past weekend, Representative Dave Rutigliano (R-123) competed in the 2013 Chowdafest to Benefit the Connecticut Food Bank.  Rep. Rutigliano, who competed alongside one of his sons, was the runner up in the creative chowder category his roasted corn chowder and poblano soup.

“It was an honor to compete for and bring awareness to such a great cause,” said Rutigliano. “The Connecticut Food Bank does incredible work for our state and it is so great to see so many people come out for such a great cause.  Just a few short years ago the Chowdafest was a few hundred people in a gym; now this past weekend thousands lined up at the Webster Bank Arena.  It is a real testament to the great work Jim Keenan and the founders of the event have done in such a short time. ”

“This just seemed to be a no-brainer,” organizer Jim Keenan said. “You can come here and try some incredible soups, or stay home and watch eight hours of pregame shows.”

In four short years Chowdafest, a premier Connecticut chowder and soup competition, has grown so popular that it was relocated to the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. By the end of the afternoon, Chowdafest had served 2,400 people and collected 1,400 pounds of food for the food bank.
