WOODBURY – In celebration of Women’s History Month this March, students at Woodbury Middle School took on the challenge of writing essays about influential women in history and how their legacies embody the spirit of the month.
State Representative Karen Reddington-Hughes (R-Woodbury) met with ten sixth-grade students whose thoughtful and inspiring essays earned special recognition.
“Today’s ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our local students and reflect on the powerful stories they chose to highlight,” said Rep. Reddington-Hughes. “It’s so important that we continue to honor the women who have shaped our world — both here in the U.S. and globally. We received many outstanding submissions, but two essays truly stood out for their insight and creativity.”
Calla Trimarki took home top honors with her essay on Helen Keller, while Lila Coelho earned runner-up recognition for her piece on Kristen Griest. Both students were awarded official legislative citations for their outstanding work.
To commemorate their efforts, all participating students received special-edition legislative pins from the State Capitol. According to Rep. Reddington Hughes, they’re a token of appreciation for their dedication to honoring women’s history through writing.
