In conjunction with the upcoming Flag Day holiday on June 14th, State Representative Karen Reddington-Hughes (R-66), joined by Rep. John Piscopo, and State Senators Stephen Harding (R-30) and Eric Berthel (R-32), today announced they will be hosting a flag drive to collect used or worn American flags for proper disposal.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, when the American flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by a controlled burning ceremony.
“It’s important that we honor and respect the American flag, especially when these incredible symbols of our nation are being retired from use,” Rep. Reddington-Hughes said. “I encourage you to drop off your worn and unused flags so they may be properly and ceremoniously retired.”
