Hartford, CT – In a troubling display of partisan maneuvering, a last-minute filibuster orchestrated by the Majority Party consumed the final 90 minutes of the House’s legislative session, effectively derailing key legislation – including a crucial audit bill affecting the 66th District.
“What we witnessed today was not governance. It was political theater,” said Representative Reddington-Hughes, member of the Education Committee. “The Majority chose to prioritize special interests over the public good, leaving important legislation to die on the calendar.”
Among the casualties of this obstruction was a bill that would have advanced an audit of Regional School District 20 in Litchfield – a matter of high importance to constituents in the 66th District. The bill’s failure now jeopardizes transparency and accountability in local education funding.
“This filibuster wasn’t just a waste of time—it was a disservice to the people of Connecticut, and especially to the residents of the 66th District,” Rep. Reddington-Hughes added. “Since the state has signaled its unwillingness to be a partner in this effort, I will be actively exploring new avenues to increase local control of our schools. Our students and taxpayers deserve better.”
Rep. Reddington-Hughes remains committed to pursuing legislative and community-based solutions that protect the interests of local residents and ensure responsible oversight of public education.
