Reading Across the 66th

State Representative Karen Reddington-Hughes (R-66) celebrated Read Across America Day by reading The Curious Garden to students at Warren Elementary School on Thursday, March 2nd.
Before starting the book, Rep. Reddington-Hughes took time to explain how our state legislature works, her role as a state representative, and how decisions made in Hartford affect Connecticut residents, including the students.
“As a member of the legislature’s Education Committee it’s exciting to share my joy of reading with students, especially when I get to explore stories through a fresh perspective by seeing their reactions, listening to their interpretations, and answering their questions,” Rep. Reddington-Hughes said. “I want to thank the students, teachers and staff at Warren Elementary for letting me celebrate literacy and reading with them.”
Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2nd with the goal of sharing the joy of reading and promote early childhood literacy with elementary schoolers.
According to its website, The National Education Association seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. For more information about this great event please visit www.nea.org/readacross.
