Connecticut’s Chief Election Officer’s Offensive, Partisan Attacks on Republican Registrars

Connecticut’s Chief Election Officer’s Offensive, Partisan Attacks on Republican Registrars

At the recent Registrars of Voters Association of Connecticut, ROVAC, conference where Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas vented her dislike for President Trump and the Republicans, the messaging was just a diversion from the real trouble that Connecticut has been saddled with – an unreliable voting system that has opened the door to corruption and a delay in justice. In Bridgeport it has allowed repeat offenders access to interfere with successive elections as the State Elections Enforcement Commission delayed processing previous allegations. The corruption has gone on unabated for years.

Connecticut requires a photo identification to purchase cigarettes or liquor yet to exercise one of our most important rights -to vote- we do not require the same.

When someone is voting in an election we should be aware of the fact that the issues being voted on may change the landscape of where we live. Identifying whether or not someone actually has the right to make that decision and cast a ballot is not just important but also responsible.

How has the atmosphere become so toxic that enforcing common sense is seen as divisive? If these questions are brought forward they are met with disdain and turned around to claim that somehow the law abiding citizen is either wrong, discriminatory or misguided.

Where was the outrage when TSA migrated towards verified licenses (REAL ID)? This has been offered since 2011. As of May 7, 2025 all passengers who want to board an airline for a domestic flight will need a REAL ID drivers license or passport. I guess that the voters that are able to adhere to this for travel take offense to being identified at the polls.

Thomas in her conference address repeatedly criticized President Trump, spewing misinformation about his Executive Order on “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections.”  In a follow-up letter to every registrar in Connecticut, Thomas attempted to clarify her remarks saying she was not trying to disparage Republicans when she likened supporters of the executive order – and by extension GOP registrars in the room – to the Nazi Waffen SS. Disgraceful.
