HARTFORD, CT —State Representative Bill Pizzuto (R-71) applauded a $4 million allocation approved this month by the State Bond Commission for demolition and remediation of the former Bristol Babcock industrial site in Waterbury.
“I’m appreciative of the decision from Governor Lamont, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and commission members to invest in this project and for making this a priority,” said Pizzuto.
The 310,000-square-foot manufacturing complex sits on 6 acres of land adjacent to the Naugatuck River. Bristol Babcock manufactured pressure and heat gauges and other control equipment starting in the late 1800s and moved its headquarters to a new location in 1986. The 40 Bristol Street building has been vacant since 2002 and slowly fell into disrepair. It also fell victim to a fire in 2015, leaving only a shell of the building.
“This clean up could pave the way for revitalization of a once-productive site, which unfortunately has been a public safety hazard and an eyesore for a long time. I worked at Bristol for a few years, and it would be great to see this property back in use,” said Pizzuto.
The grant money was approved unanimously at the August 8, 2024, Bond Commission meeting at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
