State Representative Bill Pizzuto (R-71) last week joined his colleagues on the Banking Committee to unanimously support a proposal that would create a Hero Loan Subsidy Program for healthcare workers and emergency responders.
Senate Bill 271 – An Act Concerning Student Loans, would direct the Commissioner of Education to provide eligible healthcare workers, social workers, police and firefighters lower interest rates on student loans.
“Providing a subsidy to essential frontline workers through the Hero Loan program is a small way to say thank you to the men and women who have and continue to work on behalf of their neighbors to make our state better,” Rep. Pizzuto said.
The bill will be placed on the State Senate calendar and awaits further action.
