Rep. Pizzuto Delivers Remarks at Opening of New UConn Waterbury Building

Waterbury, CT. – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held recently for the newly renovated 36N Main Street at the UConn Waterbury campus. State Representative William Pizzuto (R-71) delivered remarks during the ceremony, which also featured a plaque unveiling naming the building for former Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary.
Pizzuto was the longtime Campus Director for UConn Waterbury, a position he held during transformational changes in education and to the area.
“This campus is near and dear to me. We have the best faculty, staff, and students. I’m excited to see this building in the heart of downtown put back to use. It’s a state-of-the-art facility and will fill a much-needed service in educating nursing students and providing allied health programs,” said Rep. Pizzuto.

This event highlighted UConn-Waterbury’s local footprint expansion, with the addition of several academic, research, and administrative operations in the historic building, as well as former Mayor Neil O’Leary’s contributions to the community.
“Extensive renovations were completed to the space. This building sat vacant for many years, and portions had fallen into disrepair before the renovation. What was accomplished in getting this building open is remarkable. From the health care simulation rooms and a maker space to the robotics lab and gathering studio, students will get first-class experiences,” noted Rep. Pizzuto.

The building is around the corner from UConn Waterbury’s East Main Street location, with access through the back courtyard to the entrance to the newly leased space.
