State Rep. Bill Pizzuto (R-71) joined several colleagues, capitol staff, lobbyists, and advocates for a free training to learn how to “Stop The Bleed.”
May is National Stop the Bleed Month, and trainers from ACS Stop The Bleed were at the Capitol, with assistance from local hospital staff to teach these basic, lifesaving techniques. According to the group, learning to stop the bleed is a lifesaving skill, and the number one cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding.
Rep. Pizzuto has cosponsored a bill proposed this year about this training, which can significantly increase the chances of survival.
The basic actions are straightforward and save lives:
1) Call 9-1-1
2) Apply pressure with hands
3) Pack the wound and press
4) Apply a tourniquet
