HARTFORD– Grants for public schools throughout Connecticut have been awarded by the State of Connecticut to make upgrades to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The grants are being awarded through the HVAC Indoor Air Quality Grants Program for Public Schools, a newly established state program that is administered by the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services. Funding for the program comes from $75 million in state bonding and $75 million from the state’s share of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

“I am pleased that Waterbury was included in this first round of funding in the new program. Modernized ventilation systems will prolong the life of older buildings to ensure a healthy environment for students so they can continue to be in the classroom, learning in-person. The City of Waterbury will provide matching grants to fund the project costs,” said State Representative William Pizzuto (R-71).

The first round of grants awarded under the HVAC Indoor Air Quality Grants Program for Public Schools include:

    • Tinker — $2,027,648.28
    • Sprague Elementary School — $2,153,877.17
    • Woodrow Wilson — $1,902,121.11
    • Walsh — $2,175,275.16
    • Bunker Hill –$1,746,535.90
    • Kingsbury –$1,813,113.33
    • Hopeville — $2,080,301.60
    • Driggs — $2,066,180.05
