Celebrating Public Displays of Art!

Rep. Pizzuto recently met with and presented official state citations from the entire Waterbury legislative delegation to Stacey Mendyka, general manager of the Brass Mill Center and Commons, Brian Cohen, co-founder of Positive Expression, and Mira LaVasseur, Waterbury’s Interim Municipal Agent for the Elderly, for their combined effort to bring positive and uplifting art to public spaces in Waterbury’s Brass Mill Center.
Rep. Pizzuto joined the group for a discussion about the importance of engaging the public in art and making such work accessible to everyone. They toured two areas of the mall that have been set up to highlight art created by members of the Waterbury Senor Center, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Waterbury and other local artists.
The citations were given for “displaying leadership and showcasing the importance of art in society at a time when Connecticut needed to feel hopeful, which helped inspire and lift the spirits of your fellow citizens.”
The Brass Mill Center was presented with a citation for “granting Positive Expression and artists of all ages the opportunity to not only exhibit art for all to see, but to create a sense of community and well- being during a time of worry and angst. Your act of kindness through artistic expression has inspired a great many and for that we are thankful.”
Positive Expression is an all-volunteer, Connecticut educational non-profit established on June 28, 1993.
