Thomaston – On Monday morning, students from Thomaston High School gathered for a Youth Summit, an event sponsored by the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments. State Representative John Piscopo (R-76) participated in the summit, offering insights into his role as a state representative. He began the event by addressing the students, sharing details about his responsibilities and the legislative process, before hosting a series of group discussions during a conference period.

“If there’s one thing I’d like the students to remember, it’s that I work for them!” said Rep. Piscopo. “Whenever there’s legislation or an issue they want to address, I encourage them to reach out to me. It was great to hear their thoughts, and I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss how Connecticut’s legislative process works.”

Throughout the summit, students had the chance to engage with representatives from various government services and community organizations. The event aimed to give students a deeper understanding of how their state and local governments function and how they can get involved in shaping their community’s future.

The day fostered thoughtful discussions and sparked curiosity about public service, leaving the students with a better appreciation of the democratic processes that influence their lives.
