Statement from State Rep. John Piscopo

In response to the recent incident in Harwinton, in which the body of a baby boy was discovered in Bristol Reservoir #4, State Representative John Piscopo (R-76) released the following statement:
“I am saddened by this very unfortunate incident involving the finding of the body of a baby boy in our local reservoir. While law enforcement continues to investigate and details are still coming to light, I would like to take the opportunity to share an important reminder to residents in Harwinton and across Connecticut that we have a Safe Haven law in this state. Safe Haven is a responsible alternative to leaving or discarding infants in unsafe places by allowing a mother of an infant baby thirty days old or younger to voluntarily and anonymously surrender the physical custody of her baby at local hospitals. This effort gives dignity to all life, and provides mothers with the responsible option to relinquish custody of their child. Because of Safe Havens, the lives of many infant babies born in our state have been saved from being discarded and left in danger. I encourage any expecting mother who may be struggling to consider this safe and anonymous alternative.”
