State Rep. John Piscopo (R-76) joined Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss in congratulating Rachel Fallon on winning the ‘Readers are Leaders’ program.  Representative Piscopo presented Rachel with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly in acknowledgement of her achievement.

“It is my honor to congratulate Rachel Fallon on her impressive accomplishment,” said Piscopo.  “She has shown that even the youngest among us can have a passion for reading.  It’s so important to keep children interested in reading as they continue their learning and development.”

During the celebration at Town Hall, Rachel, 6, of Harwinton, with her mother, Bridget at her side, took the oath of office and was sworn in by First Selectman Criss as an honorary selectman for the day.

added, “I’d also like to thank First Selectman Criss for his leadership in creating and implementing this program, along with all of those who were instrumental in supporting the program.  The importance and value of reading at every age and grade level cannot be understated.”

The Readers are Leaders program was started by Criss in conjunction with Region 10 school district and the Harwinton Library.  It is sponsored by More Than Words, LLC and Harwinton Pizza.
