State Rep. John Piscopo Honors Burlington Town Historian Leonard Alderman

HARWINTON– State Rep John Piscopo (R-76) joined town officials, administrators, supporters, friends, and family, as they honored Mr. Alderman’s service as Burlington Town Historian for over 20 years. Leonard Alderman Appreciation Day celebrated the great success, and lifetime of contributions that Alderman has given to the town of Burlington.

“This event was a great way to honor and recognize the outstanding work and the commitment of Mr. Alderman,” said Rep. Piscopo. “He selflessly gave of his time and of his talent, in order to ensure that the history of Burlington was preserved for future generations. His contribution to our community for decades has earned him a very special place not only in the history of Burlington, but in our hearts as well. I congratulate Mr. Alderman on his service to this great community, and I wish him continued success and happiness.”

Ann Mazeau, Local History Specialist at the Burlington Public Library, gave a presentation detailing the lifetime of service Mr. Alderman dedicated to both his country and his community. Rep. Piscopo presented Alderman with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly. Town officials, dignitaries, and friends all spoke on the outstanding achievements Alderman realized throughout his tenure as historian.

A lifelong resident, Leonard Alderman became Burlington historian in 1994. Over the years he has compiled several books on local history, collected records, personal genealogies and histories, cemetery records for Burlington and 6 surrounding towns, newspaper accounts, manuscripts, maps and legends. Alderman also served as official church historian of the Burlington Congregational Church. Some of his books are on file at the Connecticut State Library, and the Connecticut Historical Society has purchased all of them.
