State Rep. John Piscopo Applauds State Grant for Senior Housing Improvements

Hartford – State Rep. John Piscopo (R- Thomaston) applauds the state’s Small Cities Program grant for Thomaston. Administered by the state’s Department of Housing, the funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities Program, which provides grants to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and other revitalization projects.
“This is yet another exciting day for the town of Thomaston,” said Rep. Piscopo. “I’m thrilled that the application was approved as these funds will support needed improvements to Grove Manor. Providing safe housing for our senior residents is of the utmost importance. I thank First Selectman Ed Mone and our town officials and leaders for their diligent work through the application process and for their continued vision to improve the quality of life for residents in Thomaston.”
The town of Thomaston was awarded $611,445 in grant funds, which will be used to replace a deteriorated roof and repoint exterior walls at Grove Manor, a converted school building with 27 units of elderly housing located downtown.
Thomaston was one of 24 towns throughout Connecticut receiving a grant for the purposes of affordable and senior housing, economic development, and other revitalization projects in each community. In total, over $12.8 million was awarded to fund over 600 units of elderly, as well as low to moderate-income housing projects and improvements.
