Reps. Piscopo, Reddington-Hughes, Sen. Harding Applaud Bond Commission Support for Litchfield American Legion Post 27

HARTFORD – State Representatives John Piscopo (R-76) and Karen Reddington-Hughes (R-66) and State Senator Steven Harding (R-30) today applauded the state Bond Commission for including substantial funding for renovations to the Litchfield American Legion Post 27 building.

The funds will be used to renovate both the front and rear entrances, expand the kitchen and provide larger, accessible bathroom facilities on the ground and first floor of the 1938 building.

“The American Legion and its members are a great partner to the Litchfield community. Securing resources to complete necessary upgrades to the building will go a long way in shoring up a quality event venue for future generations. I applaud the allocation and look forward to visiting Post 27’s upgraded facility,” said Piscopo.

“I want to thank the Bond Commission for recognizing the importance of renovating and updating the Legion building to make it fully accessible to everyone, especially for the senior citizens and disabled members of our community who enjoy so many events there,” Rep. Reddington-Hughes said. “These funds will allow the building to continue to be a welcoming gathering place for the community for decades to come.”

Senator Harding said. “The funds allocated today will play a significant role in uplifting the infrastructure of the post and improving accessibility to ensure it remains a cornerstone of our community. With this grant, we are investing in our veterans, strengthening local relationships, and reaffirming our commitment to honoring those who have served our great nation. I’d like to thank the Commission for seeing the project’s importance and prioritizing our veterans.”

The $250,000 line item for Post 27 is included as part of a larger, $80 million Office of Policy and Management (OPM) grants issued through the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) for “urban development projects including economic and community development, transportation, environmental protection, public safety, children and families and social service projects” across the state.
