Rep. Piscopo, Sen. Martin Congratulate Harwinton’s Outstanding Citizen

HARWINTON—State Rep. John Piscopo (R-76) and State Sen. Henri Martin (R-31) joined Harwinton First Selectman, Michael Criss, along with town officials, residents, and guests in offering their congratulations to this year’s Harwinton Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Colleen Slason. During a banquet held in her honor at the Fairview Farm Golf Course, Slason was presented with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly in recognition of her achievement.

A Harwinton resident of over 7 years, Slason was chosen for the honor by a six-member, rotating committee of fellow residents including past award recipients Brian Dunbar, 2011 honoree Madeline Marzullo, Marilyn Mitchell, 2013 honoree Roger Plaskett and 2012 honoree Tom Schoenemann., led by Chairman Fred J. Fincken Jr. Award recipients are chosen for their dedication and contribution to the Harwinton community.

‘It is my honor to congratulate Colleen Slason on being named this year’s Outstanding Citizen,’ said Rep. Piscopo. ‘Through her continued commitment to volunteerism, Colleen has demonstrated a genuine support for her community and the desire to make Harwinton a great place to live and work. I am proud to recognize her with a citation on behalf of the Connecticut General Assembly for her outstanding achievement.

“Colleen’s service to Harwinton has been exemplary, and we are pleased to join together in recognizing the time and effort she has put in for the betterment of the town,” said Sen. Martin.

Besides serving as Assistant Town Clerk for Harwinton, Slason is treasurer of The Bronc Callahan Community Fund and is past president of the Harwinton Woman’s Club from 2010-2012. She also served on the board of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Connecticut. In 2012, she served as secretary of the Harwinton 275th Committee, which helped organize the town’s anniversary celebration.

“This award is a wonderful tradition in our town and forever cements Colleen as a role model for future generations to strive for,” said Harwinton First Selectman, Michael Criss, who recognized Slason’s achievement with a proclamation from the Town of Harwinton.

The award for civic involvement has been presented annually since 1975.
