The Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) recently released their legislative scorecard, which gives every state lawmaker a rating for their voting record as it pertains to laws that could impact small and large businesses. State Representative John Piscopo received a perfect score from CBIA.

Rep. Piscopo voted against anti-business policies that will make it more difficult for business owners to grow and thrive in Connecticut.

“It’s a real honor to be considered a legislator that is friendly and considerate of the business community, and I do believe that they are the backbone of our state. I also wish that more of my colleagues made an effort to support our existing businesses and recruit new ones. However, the reality is that this legislative session gave way to a number of new laws that will further squeeze our businesses and make it harder for them to operate in this state. Years and years of state government relying on our business community to make up for reckless spending habits is what has led to a growing exodus of businesses leaving the state or closing their doors.”

This session the majority party passed the following anti-business legislation:

    • Minimum Wage Increase to $15
    • Mandated payroll tax to fund Paid Family Leave
    • State budget that included an increase in filing fees and a $0.10 plastic bag tax
