State Rep. John Piscopo (R-76) was among the many people who turned out to congratulate Reinhold Hekeler III at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony held on Sunday, August 22, 2021.

To earn this prestigious honor, Hekeler planned, organized, executed, and ultimately transformed a boat trailer into a parade float for the Harwinton Womans Club and the Veterans of Harwinton.

Hekeler led work teams of volunteers, including scouts, family and friends, and raised over $3,000 in order to complete the task.

Piscopo provided Hekeler with a special citation from the Connecticut General Assembly in recognition of his impressive effort.

“It was an honor and privilege to take part in such a memorable and enjoyable ceremony.  I feel immense pride each time a Boy Scout becomes an Eagle as it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and skill to achieve,” Rep. Piscopo said. “Congratulations on this momentous achievement!”

In addition to the numerous requirements of the Boy Scouts of America, candidates for the rank of Eagle Scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, complete numerous hours of community service, and hold a position of leadership within their Boy Scout troop or high school sports team. Among his many achievements, Hekeler is Captain of his lacrosse team, Link Crew Leader, and will be attending Wheaton College in the fall to play lacrosse and study business management.

The town’s first selectman Mike Criss also participated in the ceremony and presented Hekeler with an official citation from the Town of Harwinton.
