HARTFORD — Finance Committee member Rep. John Piscopo on April 1 supported a measure that would have ended the business entity tax Connecticut companies have to pay each year. Sen. Andrew Roraback, R-Goshen, proposed it through an amendment to a majority party bill that would impose a nearly 9 percent tax on corporate bonuses of a million dollars or more. The amendment failed 33-13 during a Finance Committee meeting, though Piscopo, like Roraback, was among those who voted for it. “This is a tax that companies, our small businesses, are forced to pay if whether they turn a profit or not,” he said. “For the average guy thinking about starting a business, this tax is a barrier.”
