Piscopo Testifies On Legislation to Provide Funds for Improvements to Thomaston Opera House

HARTFORD – Last week, State Representative John Piscopo (R-Thomaston) testified on his proposed legislation requesting funds to continue improvements to the Thomaston Opera House.
H.B. 5976 –An Act Authorizing Bonds of the State of the Thomaston Opera House seeks to provide funding for renovations and upgrades to the historic landmark.
“I proudly proposed and testified in favor of this legislation to support the continued restoration, and renovation of the Thomaston Opera House,” said Piscopo. “This historic facility continues to serve as a cultural hub for the residents of Thomaston and the surrounding communities. Dedicated volunteers have donated countless hours of their time and their talent to the theater and the arts to improve the quality of life for residents. This legislation provides much needed funding to continue the work to restore this historic facility and improve its technical capabilities. “
Under the management of Landmark Community Theater and the Thomaston Opera House Commission, the Opera House continues to serve as a cultural and recreational center for the town and surrounding communities, boasting its production of high-quality entertainment and educational programming.
As a non-profit organization, the Thomaston Opera House relies heavily on financial support from the community for funding to improve, update and restore the historic facility. Some of the projects currently under construction are carpeting, drapes, new restrooms, technical upgrades and the continued restoration of the Arts Center.
The bill awaits further action by vote for passage out of the General Assembly’s Commerce Committee.
