Piscopo Testifies On Legislation To Extend Public Water Utilities

HARTFORD – In support of the residents of Jackson Street in Thomaston, State Representative John Piscopo (R-Thomaston) testified on his proposed legislation aimed at providing clean drinking water to households during the Planning and Development Committee’s public hearing earlier this month. The measure would allow for the extension of public water utilities to this street.
H.B. 5094 –An Act Concerning Construction of a Waterline in the Town of Thomaston looks to provide a long term solution to providing clean drinking water to area residents.
“I proudly proposed and testified in favor of this legislation in hopes that it will improve the quality of life for the residents on Jackson Street, who have been dealing with the hardship of contaminated wells for the past decade” said Piscopo. “Testing of several wells by the Torrington Area Health District revealed unsafe levels of bacteria. In one case a new well was drilled to one thousand feet, however no water was present. Given the density of the lots and insufficient underground water sources, the extension of public water to this street is the best long term solution.”

The bill awaits further action by vote for passage out of the Planning and Development Committee.
