Hartford – State Rep. John Piscopo (R-Thomaston) testified before the Judiciary Committee on Monday afternoon in support of legislation speaking to the operations of private campgrounds. The legislation seeks to provide a clear understanding to those utilizing private campgrounds of the inherent risks involved with recreating in an outdoor environment.
“We really just want to clarify the responsibility of certain parties in the event someone gets hurt on a private campground,” said Piscopo. “We want people to enjoy the campgrounds we have throughout Connecticut, but sometimes, in an outdoor environment, things can go wrong. We want there to be a clear path towards a remedy if there’s a bad camping trip.”
Piscopo answered questions from the committee before concluding his testimony. State Rep. Tom O’Dea (R-New Canaan) asked Piscopo if he knew of any testimony opposing the concept. Piscopo noted that there had not been opposition testimony submitted, as of Monday’s hearing.
The Judiciary Committee will have a few weeks to consider the bills that were heard today. The bill needs to be acted upon by April 1, in order for it to move forward in the legislative process.
