Piscopo Participates in League of Women Voters’ Legislative Panel & Breakfast

GOSHEN – State lawmakers, including State Rep. John Piscopo (R-76), took the opportunity on Saturday morning to meet with members of the public and engage in a policy discussion at Camp Cochipianee. The event was hosted and facilitated by the League of Women Voters of Litchfield.

“I appreciated the discussion between my fellow participants of the panel, which included lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, and those who were able to attend the breakfast. We covered an array of topics, including the future of the fiscal guardrails that were approved through the bipartisan budget of 2017. These guardrails were re-approved just last session and were enacted to help keep Connecticut solvent. To date, these guardrails have truly helped our state’s financial picture,” said Rep. Piscopo, whose district covers part of Litchfield.

Piscopo and his fellow Republicans are moving to make the guardrails part of the Connecticut Constitution, effectively protecting them from ever being removed by current or future legislatures.

During the forum, lawmakers also tackled subjects of early voting, which has left towns struggling to find resources to conduct a two-week early voting period, and the governor’s mandate to require all new vehicles be electric powered by the year 2035.

The 2024 session will adjourn on Wednesday, May 8.
