Piscopo Named House Republican Chief Whip, Announces Committee Assignments

HARTFORD – Preparing to serve his fourteenth term in the General Assembly, State Representative John Piscopo (R-76), of Thomaston, Burlington, Harwinton, and Litchfield has received his committee assignments from incoming House Republican Leader Themis Klarides.
Rep. Piscopo has been selected to serve as Chief Whip in the House Republican Caucus.
Rep. Piscopo also announced his other committee assignments for the 2015-2017 legislative sessions. Rep. Piscopo was reappointed to the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee as well as the Energy & Technology Committee for the upcoming two year term. He will also serve on the Environment, Screening, and Legislative Management Committees.
“I’m honored to have been selected by Rep. Klarides to serve as Chief Whip for the upcoming legislative session,” Rep. Piscopo said. “I’m also looking forward to working with my colleagues in the General Assembly and getting this state back on sound fiscal ground. We’ve got a lot of work to do; I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to it. I encourage anyone who has questions or concerns regarding state government to contact me.”
The Finance Committee has jurisdiction over all matters relating to finance, revenue, capital bonding, fees and taxation. The committee also has cognizance over employer contributions for unemployment compensation and all matters relating to the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue.
The 2015 Legislative Session will convene on Wednesday, January 7th at 10:00am.
