Piscopo, Local Officials Celebrate All-Star Transportation Grand Opening

Harwinton – State Rep. John Piscopo (R-76) joined town officials and guests this morning at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the All-Star Transportation facility located on Route 4 in Harwinton. Located on the site of the old Johnnycake Mountain Meadow Airport which closed in April 2004, the property and existing building have been repurposed by All-Star Transportation to house more than 40 buses that will serve the Region 10 community.
“This is an exciting day for Harwinton, Burlington, and the Region 10 school system,” said Rep. Piscopo. “The safe, reliable transportation of our students to and from school and activities is of the utmost importance. I’m pleased that All-Star Transportation, a company known for its commitment to safety, is a continued part of our communities. I commend Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss, John Dufour, President of All-Star Transportation, Burlington First Selectman Ted Shafer, and our town leaders for prioritizing their commitment to improving services for our students. I wish everyone a very safe and successful school year.”

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss congratulated All-Star Transportation President John R. Dufour, on repurposing the old airport to benefit the community. “The property looks incredible and we are very happy that All-Star chose to come to Harwinton and take over an existing property and building. In order to protect our rural character it makes sense for us to work with potential businesses that have a good plan for use of existing space. I would like to commend Mr. Dufour and his team for the work they do in keeping our children safe and having the foresight to utilize our existing space.”
Burlington First Selectman Ted Shafer was also in attendance and offered his congratulations to All-Star Transportation.
Following the ceremony, Dufour gave Rep. Piscopo and First Selectmen Criss and Shafer a tour of the facility. The group also met with bus drivers on-site, who were busy making preparations for the coming school year.
The grand opening celebration comes just days prior to the start of the 2015-16 school year for Region 10 which begins next Tuesday, September 1.
