Piscopo Attends Ribbon Cutting for New Burlington-Harwinton Safe Harbor Activity Center

HARTFORD- State Rep. John Piscopo (Burlington, Harwinton) joined First Selectmen Michael Criss of Harwinton and Ted Schaffer of Burlington, local officials and community members for the ribbon cutting of the new Burlington-Harwinton Safe Harbor Facility, located in Burlington. An induction ceremony for new student advisory council members was also held.
“This is an exciting day, not only for the Burlington and Harwinton communities, but also for the residents that rely on Safe Harbor for the quality programs and counseling services they provide,” said Piscopo. “In just two short years, Safe Harbor has established itself as a respected resource and support for our community teens and their families.”
Donated by Safe House supporters Dwight and Patricia Harris of Burlington, the 900 square foot space will serve as the new teen center, featuring a meeting space, lounge area, and kitchen area.
Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss added, “This is a big step forward for the program we started just two years ago. I am so proud of these kids and the advisors who helped to make this happen. A special thanks to Dwight Harris for donating the space to the Safe Harbor cause.”
In collaboration with the Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau, Safe Harbor provides counseling and support programs for Regional School District 10 students.
