Piscopo Applauds Veterans-to-Agriculture Bill

HARTFORD – State Representative John Piscopo (R-76) joined his colleagues in the House of Representatives on Wednesday in unanimously passing a bill aimed at improving veterans’ transition into civilian life by establishing a new agricultural program and encouraging entrepreneurship in a difficult business climate.
“The brave men and women who serve in our armed forces give selflessly so that we may enjoy the many freedoms we have as American citizens,” said Piscopo. “I proudly voted in support of this legislation which will support our military veterans transitioning back into civilian life by providing them with the opportunity not only to learn a new skill, but also to utilize that skill as an entrepreneurs and business owners.”
H.B. 6375, which provides tax incentives to veterans engaging in agricultural production, also requires the Department of Agriculture to work with the departments of Veterans’ Affairs and Labor to provide guidance, education and training for farming or agricultural operations.
“This program encourages the successful reintegration of veterans into civilian life as a productive member of their community. As an agricultural farmer, veterans will be able to provide for their families as well as support their neighbors and the local economy,” added Piscopo.
The program, if approved by the Senate and signed by the governor, will be open to veterans who have never engaged in agricultural production or to those who have been involved in agricultural production for less than two years.
