Yesterday marked a momentous occasion for the UConn Waterbury campus and the greater Waterbury community. I had the distinct honor of attending a special ceremony celebrating the official renaming of the former Odd Fellows Hall to the Neil M. O’Leary Building—an enduring tribute to one of the City’s most dedicated public servants.

The event was both moving and memorable, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring Mayor O’Leary’s many contributions to Waterbury. The newly named building stands not only as a vital part of the UConn campus but also as a symbol of civic dedication and leadership.

I was privileged to join a distinguished group of speakers to reflect on Mayor O’Leary’s legacy. His deep commitment to public service and the betterment of our city has left a lasting impact, and it was clear from the heartfelt remarks shared that his influence continues to inspire many.

It was a day filled with pride, gratitude, and reflection—a fitting tribute to a remarkable leader.
