Bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention

and Children’s Safety

What is it?

A special bipartisan task force recently announced by legislative leaders and charged with developing recommendations designed to reduce gun violence, enhance school safety and increase access to mental health care has scheduled a series of public hearings.

What are the Sub-Committees?

There are three Sub-Committees: Gun Violence, School Security, and Mental Health.

Who has been Appointed?

48 Combined State Representatives and Senators have been appointed. For the full list, please visit www.cga.ct.gov/ASaferConnecticut

When are the Hearings?

You are encouraged to participate in this process.

Public hearings will be held at the Legislative Office Building, 300 Capitol Ave., Hartford, CT and are scheduled as follows:

School safety: January 25 at 1:00pm, Rm 2C

This public hearing will concern school safety and security ONLY. Remarks on general mental health issues and gun violence prevention should be reserved for their hearings, unless pertaining to mental health professionals working in schools or the possibility of introducing armed guards in schools.

Gun safety: January 28 at 1:00pm, Rm 2C
Mental health: January 29 at 1:00pm, Rm 2C

Note: Speakers giving testimony will have 3 minutes, followed by questions and answers.

A public hearing will also be held by the bipartisan task force at Newtown High School on January 30 at 6:00 p.m.

Please indicate in the subject of your email to which working group(s) you would like your testimony directed (gun violence prevention, school security, and/or mental health services) and note that your submitted testimony is public.
