BANTAM, CT – April 10, 2025 – Litchfield County’s own Arethusa Farm Dairy has claimed a prestigious national honor once again, with its signature Europa Gouda named the Best Cheese in America at this year’s national cheese competition held in Wisconsin.
Governor Ned Lamont joined local officials, including State Representatives John Piscopo (R-76) and Karen Reddington-Hughes (R-66), as well as State Senator Stephen Harding, for a special tour and recognition event at the Bantam-based dairy to celebrate the achievement.

This marks Arethusa Farm Dairy’s second consecutive national title, a remarkable accomplishment as the competition is held biennially. The dairy stood out among elite entries from across the country, beating renowned brands like Land O’Lakes, Cabot, and others.
The site visit was facilitated by Chris Casiello, Head Production Manager at Arethusa, and featured insights from Brea Brousseau, a veteran cheesemaker and integral part of the award-winning team. Lawmakers and guests observed the cheese-making process firsthand and sampled the celebrated Europa Gouda.
Arethusa Farm Dairy continues to raise the bar in artisanal cheese making, combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative practices to create products that are recognized on a national—and global—scale.
