Harwinton – State Rep. John Piscopo (R-76) and State Senator Henri Martin (R-31)  joined Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss in congratulating Chad Edmond on winning the ‘Readers are Leaders’ program.  Representative Piscopo and Senator Martin presented Edmond with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly in acknowledgement of his achievement.

“It is my honor to congratulate Chad Edmond on his impressive accomplishment,” said Rep. Piscopo.  “His passion for reading is inspiring and an example to his peers.  It’s so important to keep children interested in reading as they continue their learning and development.”

During the celebration at Town Hall, Edmond, 8, of Harwinton, took the oath of office and was sworn in by First Selectman Criss as an honorary selectman for the day.   “What a great day for Chad – we are all very proud of him,” said Sen. Martin.  “We thank everyone who participated in this wonderful program, and we hope it continues to inspire our future leaders in the years to come.  Congratulations!”

Rep. Piscopo added, “I’d also like to thank First Selectman Criss for his leadership in creating this program, along with all of those who were instrumental in supporting the program again this year.  The importance and value of reading at every age and grade level cannot be understated.”

The Readers are Leaders program, which challenges students to read their entire summer reading list, was started by Criss last year in conjunction with Region 10 school district and the Harwinton Library.
